Tarifa, Andalucia, Spain - Europe
Tarifa is located on the southern most tip of Spain on the Strait of Gibraltar. The stunning setting is backed by the Andalusian mountains that over look the straits towards of the Atlas mountains of Morocco and it is actually these geographical features that characterise the wind in Tarifa. Steeped in History, Tarifa got its name from the Moorish word tariff. In the 15th century the ‘Tarifa Pirates’ would demand a tariff to pass through the straights.
More recently Tarifa has developed off the back of the consistent wind that funnels through the straits attracting kitesurfers and windsurfers from all over the world. Drawn by the wind, they are looking to harness up and ride.
The night life in Tarifa has a uniquely stylish buzz. The Old Town is lined with hidden bars and restaurants playing live music and passing out cocktails by the dozen. It’s a great night out and it will always go on later than you had planned for!
Tarifa is the original wind capital of the world and an absolute must for kiters and windsurfers of all levels.
